BACnet Airport Conference 2018

Welcome to our

BACnet Airport Conference

Key topics

  • Independent Building Management Systems

  • Economic and Efficient Operation of Airports

  • New Thinking and Network Technologies

Why you should attend

At airports, BACnet is regarded as a pioneer for investment security and reliable building operation. Fraport AG is building Frankfurt Airport Terminal 3 based on BACnet communication. However, the decision-makers have no neutral sources of information and no independent exchange of experience.

For the first time, the BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) offers a conference that addresses the specific requirements for the operation of airports' buildings.

Frankfurt Airport, Germany:

“At the Airport Conference we will present both our current and future projects. BACnet will continue to play an essential role.”

Dr. Ulrich Kipper, Senior Vice President Infrastructure Management at Fraport AG

Atlanta Airport, USA:

“BACnet enables large-scale energy savings. With BACnet we network our systems in 13 units and monitor our HVAC equipment.”

John Means, Director Facilities Management, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport

Munich Airport, Germany: specifically BACnet

“We opted for BACnet because, as an open standard, it is perfectfor combining different manufacturers and trades.”

Andreas Exner, Management Systems Technology Service, Munich Airport

Manchester Airport, United Kingdom: savings integrated via BACnet

“We are saving 3,000 MWh annually by more efficient luminaires and automatic controlling functions. The lighting system is integrated in the airport’s building management system and flight control systems via BACnet.”

Andy Garratt, BMS System Engineer, Utilities & Energy, Manchester Airport

Stuttgart Airport, Germany: homogeneous systems

"When we are considering extensions at Stuttgart Airport, the focus is on automation and, in particular, the homogeneously networked building management system.”

Holm Wagner, Managing Director of Flughafen Stuttgart Energie GmbH and Head of the Facility Management  Center at Stuttgart Airport

GAintegra: BACnet as centre of integration

“In order to remain economical many airports have to throw out the outdated building automation. The question of BACnet as the centre of integration arises immediately.”

Mario Betros, GAintegra - Engineering for Building Automation and Integration Planning

Conference Features

An exhibition on reliable building operation at airports will provide information on success stories with BACnet. The use of BACnet components and systems will be explained to the decision makers. Tailor-made solutions for airports will be demonstrated.

Elevator Pitch Presentations from Sponsors

The sponsors present themselves and their airport solutions in short introductions that take no longer than a ride in an elevator.

Networking Reception

A networking reception at the Gallery of the House of Logistics and Mobility rounds off the first day of the event.

BIG-EU Birthday Session: 20 Years of Success

The breakthrough of BACnet in Europe began with the multi-vendor project in the German Reichstag in Berlin. Shortly before this, in 1998, the BACnet Interest Group Europe (BIG-EU) was founded. At the Airport Conference, the association takes stock and presents the success factors of BACnet projects.

Guided Tour of Frankfurt Airport

The event ends with a guided tour behind the scenes of Frankfurt Airport. A bus ride across the grounds of Frankfurt Airport will give you an insight into the architecture and technology. You will visit the new Terminal 3 building and be brought up to date about current developments.

Creative Outlook of Airports in 2050

In the event’s closing session, junior researchers introduce ideas for the airport 2050. The freedom of science will lead to particularly creative ideas.

BACnet Academy

A one day BACnet introduction training session for visitors of the BACnet Airport Conference will take place on September 26 in Frankfurt. It will be conducted in English. Reservations can be made at

European BACnet Meetings

The regular autumn meetings of the BIG-EU take place on the days prior to the BACnet Airport Conference. They include the General Meeting, meetings of the working groups and the Advisory Board Meeting and will be hosted by the BIG-EU member Samson AG in Frankfurt.
